Call for Applications
for Members of the Academic Think Tank
of the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS)
The International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) is recruiting members for the 2016 – 2017 Academic Think Tank, with the current topic ‘The Role of Politics in Humanitarianism’ as part of the IAPSS annual theme ‘The Meaning of Politics’.
Humanitarianism and the study thereof is at a critical juncture. While the world is experiencing crises on a never before seen scale the entire international humanitarian system is called into questions, with agendas for reform and revolution and events such as the World Humanitarian Summit seeking profound change. The 2016 – 2017 IAPSS Academic Think Tank seeks to find critical and imaginative answers to some of the core questions in research on humanitarianism and the role of politics therein. It will critically examine the politics of humanitarianism and the political-ness of humanitarian actors.
We are looking for creative high-quality approaches covering all angles of the topic, from traditional questions of humanitarianism studies to more unusual approaches, including but not limited to questions such as: How are power relations shaping humanitarianism? Should humanitarianism be political? How will the World Humanitarian Summit change the humanitarian system? Are humanitarians political actors? All theoretical and methodological approaches are welcome.
